Ferdinand tells Vieira to 'let it go' following referee comments

Rio Ferdinand has hit back at Patrick Vieira after the Manchester City football development executive suggested that Manchester United get preferential treatment from referees when playing at home.

The Frenchman made the claims during an interview published on Wednesday but later issued a statement on the City website claiming that his views had been misrepresented and taken out of context.

The club also moved to ban BBC reporter Dan Roan, who conducted the interview, from media activity at the club.

Ferdinand, however, was unimpressed with the comments, which came a short time after Vieira had claimed that the return of Paul Scholes from retirement showed "a little bit of weakness in United".

"Why is Viera so concerned with Man Utd," Ferdinand tweeted on Wednesday.

"2 comments in a week or so....c'mon maaaaaan let it go!"

Vieira's comments came two days after Fulham had been denied a late penalty in their 1-0 loss to United at Old Trafford, although the Frenchman claimed not to have watched the match.

United sit three points ahead of City at the top of the table with eight matches left to play. The two sides will meet at Etihad Stadium for a potentially decisive fixture at the end of April.
