Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Amos believes that it is vital that the club beat Manchester City in the Premier League title race and avoid finishing the season empty-handed.
United currently hold a three-point lead over their local rivals with eight games remaining and Amos is confident that his side have what it takes to keep the title in the red half of the city.
"Man United are expected to win trophies every season and if we weren't to do that, we couldn't help but think that it hasn't been a successful season," he told Sky Sports.
"But we are all very confident, with the games coming up in front of us, that we can make it happen. We are in a strong position and we are in front of City.
"Europe was a big disappointment because our past record over the last six years or so has been really good. It's something that we weren't expecting but now we can put our full concentration onto the Premier League."
Sir Alex Ferguson’s side had spent much of the season playing catch-up with Roberto Mancini’s team before overtaking them in recent weeks and Amos conceded that he cannot think of anything worse than City pipping them to glory.
He added: "Any Premier League title is brilliant, but this year we have been behind for quite a lot of the season and with it being City, our big rivals, as a Manchester United fan I couldn't think of anything worse than losing the title to them.
"The team are doing everything in their power to make sure it stays with us."
The youngster also believes that the influence of veteran midfielders Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes could be vital as the campaign reaches its conclusion.
"We have still got the senior players like Giggsy and Scholesy that have been there before," Amos observed.
“Mixed with that we have got the younger lads, so we are looking to the older lads for direction because they have been there before. Hopefully that will give us the advantage."
