Cech hails 'perfect' Chelsea performance against Benfica

Petr Cech has hailed Chelsea's "perfect" performance in their Champions League win over Benfica on Tuesday night.

The Blues returned from Lisbon with a 1-0 lead ahead of the second leg at Stamford Bridge, courtesy of a late Salomon Kalou strike.

Cech believes his team-mates stuck to their game-plan perfectly and says they can be satisfied with their night’s work.

"We can say it was a perfect game for us in terms of the result," he told Sky Sports.

"We kept a clean sheet and we were patient throughout the game, waiting for our chances to come and in the end we scored on a very good counterattack.

"Overall, we can be really satisfied because in terms of the game plan we did really well. We didn't let them play first half and second half we waited patiently for our chance and it came."

Despite the Blues impressive form in Europe, it has been a season filled with turmoil at Stamford Bridge.

The west London side are fighting for a top-four finish after being touted as potential title challengers at the start of the season with recently sacked boss Andre Villas-Boas at the helm.

However, Cech is refusing to consider the season a write-off already and points to the possibility of lifting two cups as reason to keep going.

He continued: "I think this is a strange season. There were ups and downs in the league but we are still in the Champions League and the FA Cup.

"We are still hunting for two trophies so let's see how we finish, but we've put ourselves in a very good position."

Despite his optimism, Cech says he will be taking nothing for granted when Benfica visit Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.
