No war with Seedorf, insists Allegri

AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri has dismissed reports that he is at war with veteran midfielder Clarence Seedorf.

The Rossoneri boss admitted last week that he no longer considers the Dutchman a first-team player, explaining that he now finds it difficult to accommodate Seedorf when he has a fully fit squad available to him.

However, Allegri has denied that the two are now at loggerheads over the 36-year-old's lack of game time this season.

"There’s no war between me and Seedorf," the former Cagliari coach told reporters at a press conference on Tuesday.

"There are discussions in the changing room but that’s normal, and there’s no war with him or with any other player."

Meanwhile, Allegri admitted that Thiago Silva and Kevin-Prince Boateng, who have just recovered from thigh injuries, could both feature in Wednesday's must-win Serie A clash with Genoa, while the fit-again Antonio Cassano is again likely to be named among the substitutes.

"If he continues what he’s been doing in the week then Thiago Silva should take to the pitch," the coach confirmed.

"Boateng is also available. Cassano doesn’t have 90 minutes in his legs yet but I have 24 players available and I’ll be able to give some of them a rest to get back some physical and mental energy.”

After Sunday's disappointing 1-1 draw with Bologna and Juventus' subsequent 4-0 win over Roma, the Rossoneri are now three points behind the Bianconeri in the race for this season's Scudetto.

Allegri freely admits that Antonio Conte's men are now in pole position with five games left but he remains optimistic that Milan can turn things around.

"There’s no point denying that Juve are now the favourites with a three-point lead and the head-to-head advantage," he conceded.

"But at the moment, we’ve earned 32 points at home and 36 points away and the objective is still to win the title.

“I’m playing for the title and I’ll be playing for the title until Juve have won it mathematically.

"I haven’t even thought about where I've gone wrong; that’s something to be done at the end of the season with the staff. Right now the most important match is tomorrow [Wednesday] against Genoa.

"Genoa are a team fighting for survival and we’ll have to be very careful as tomorrow it’s important that we get back to winning ways as we’ve only got a single point in our last two home games and we have to keep the door to the title open."
